The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates for the Ondo State governorship election, with public campaigns set to begin on June 19 for the November 16, 2024, election. Seventeen political parties are fielding candidates, but there are no female candidates, although one candidate from the African Democratic Congress is a paraplegic. The final list includes detailed information on the candidates’ age and academic qualifications.
According to Sam Olumekun, the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, two parties conducted fresh primaries to replace their candidates and running mates by the deadline of June 10. Five parties only replaced their running mates. The public campaigning will run until midnight on November 14, just two days before the election, emphasizing the need for civility and adherence to legal guidelines to avoid incitement, violence, and voter inducement.
With the publication of the final list, INEC reminds parties to conduct campaigns with civility and decorum, starting on June 19 and ending on November 14. It’s a critical phase leading up to the election day. The full list of candidates is available at the INEC office in Akure and online for public information.\
