Germany Appeals to Allies for More Patriot Systems for Ukraine

Germany Cannot Supply More Patriot Systems to Ukraine, Urges Others – Defense Minister

Sputnik International

Germany cannot supply additional Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, as it has already provided a quarter of what the country requested. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that it is now up to partners to step in and assist Ukraine in this regard.

“We already provided three [Patriot] systems, that means a quarter of our capacities, so there is no space for providing even more than those three systems … it is on other partners to provide assistance,” Pistorius told reporters.

Pistorius emphasized the importance of the air defense system, thanking Germany and partner countries like the Netherlands, Denmark, and Norway for supplying Ukraine with additional missiles for Patriot systems. He mentioned ongoing discussions with Raytheon, the producer of Patriot missiles in the US, to explore further possibilities.

Despite these efforts, Russia has warned against continued arms deliveries to Ukraine, fearing an escalation of the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov cautioned that any weapons sent to Ukraine could become targets for Russian strikes.
