After over 20 months of imprisonment in Iran for allegedly participating in nationwide protests, French national Louis Arnaud has been released and reunited with his family in France. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed gratitude towards Oman and all involved in securing Arnaud’s freedom.

Arnaud, along with other Europeans, was arrested in September 2022 following protests triggered by the death of Mahsa Amin. Macron also expressed concern for three other French nationals still detained in Iran, urging for their release. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing to secure their freedom.

While Arnaud’s release marks a significant diplomatic victory for France, efforts continue for the remaining prisoners. French Foreign Minister Stéphane Séjourné reaffirmed their commitment to securing the release of Cécile Kohler, Jacques Paris, and Olivier, emphasizing the importance of their freedom.
