Federal High Court in Kano Rules on Emir Sanusi’s Case
A Federal High Court in Kano made a significant ruling regarding the human rights violation case filed by the dethroned Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and senior councillor, Aminu Dan’agundi, following the reinstatement of Emir Muhammad Sanusi II. The court issued an ex-parte order preventing Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano from reinstating Sanusi and abolishing four emirates under a new bill passed by the state House of Assembly.
All parties involved were instructed to maintain the status quo until the case is resolved, with the court granting permission to serve court processes to the Inspector General of Police. The defendants include various state and federal government bodies.
Justice Liman emphasized the court’s jurisdiction to hear the case, stating that the matter is ripe for hearing. The case was adjourned for ruling on June 13, 2024, as the judge deemed it too sensitive to prolong further.
