Under the leadership of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, numerous people from the opposition Tavush for the Homeland movement are marching towards the Armenian government’s main building for a Cabinet meeting. The government decided to reschedule the meeting to 9am to attend a parliamentary discussion on the 2023 state budget performance.
Police forces are currently in front of the government building, forming a human chain and blocking the entrance street. Tensions escalated during Wednesday’s protests on Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, leading to clashes between demonstrators and police. Stun grenades were used, resulting in injuries to several individuals, including reporters, policemen, and civilians.
Police Chief Aram Hovhannisyan mentioned that the police were also injured due to the throwing of glass bottles. A total of 98 people sought medical assistance, with one individual undergoing wrist surgery.
The situation remains volatile, with ongoing protests and heightened security measures in place outside the government building.
