Over 90 countries and organizations are set to attend the Swiss-hosted Ukraine peace summit this weekend, aiming to pave the way for peace talks in the region. Despite Russia’s absence, top leaders like French President Macron and German Chancellor Scholz, as well as U.S. Vice President Harris, will be present.
Switzerland’s President Amherd emphasized the importance of dialogue and humanitarian aid in fostering peace. While key countries like Turkey, South Africa, and Brazil are yet to confirm attendance, China and Brazil have cited Russia’s absence as a reason for their non-participation.
Ukraine President Zelenskyy has been actively promoting the summit and criticizing Russia and China for their actions. The conference will address issues like nuclear security, humanitarian aid, and food security, with a focus on establishing a roadmap for peace in Ukraine.
Security measures, including deploying 4,000 military personnel, have been put in place, amid concerns of cyberattacks leading up to the summit. The goal is to bring both sides to the table and work towards a lasting peace in Ukraine.
