Enhancing Economic Cooperation Between Singapore and Malaysia: An Overview

In a joint press conference with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong highlighted the potential for a successful economic zone in Johor and Singapore, emphasizing the importance of the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link in fostering collaboration.

Both leaders expressed optimism about strengthening economic integration within the ASEAN community through their bilateral efforts. Anwar acknowledged the complexity of maritime boundary issues and looked forward to resolving them at the next leaders’ retreat.

The leaders also discussed ongoing disputes over maritime boundaries and the 1962 Johor River Water Agreement. Both countries have committed to finding amicable solutions while exploring new areas of cooperation.
