A UN inquiry released on Wednesday found that both Israel and Hamas committed war crimes in the early stages of the Gaza war. The inquiry stated that Israel’s actions also constituted crimes against humanity due to the significant civilian losses. The reports were published by the UN Commission of Inquiry, focusing on Hamas attacks on 7 October and Israel’s military response.
Israel’s refusal to cooperate with the commission and accusations of bias were met with rejection by the COI. Despite the ongoing conflict, investigations by the UN have uncovered various war crimes committed by both Israel and Hamas, including murder, torture, and inhumane treatment. The findings will be presented at the UN Human Rights Council for further discussion.
