Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, has arrived in Germany for talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and to participate in a conference on Ukrainian reconstruction. This visit comes at a crucial time as Ukraine seeks further defense assistance and the expansion of its air defense system. Germany, once hesitant to provide military support to Ukraine, has now authorized the use of German weapons to strike targets in Russia.
During the conference on reconstructing Ukraine, Mr. Zelensky will discuss urgent solutions for Ukraine’s energy sector, in the face of Russia’s air terror. He will also meet with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Bundestag President Barbel Bas, as well as visit a military base where Ukrainian servicemen are training.
With Germany now being the second largest supplier of military equipment to Kyiv after the United States, Mr. Zelensky’s visit marks an important step in strengthening the partnership between the two countries in the face of Russian aggression.
