The Rio de Janeiro government has officially declared an end to the dengue epidemic after witnessing a consistent decline in cases across all regions of the state. The decision, based on analyses by the Health Intelligence Center (CIS), marks the significant drop from over 91,000 probable cases recorded during the peak of the epidemic in February. Health Secretary Claudia Mello emphasized that current rates are the lowest since the outbreak began, urging residents to remain vigilant against the Aedes Aegypti mosquito.
As of the latest epidemiological week, the state reported 1,467 probable dengue cases, totaling 268,947 cases and 178 deaths from January to June 10 this year. To combat the disease, the Rio government has allocated 160 beds in nine reference network units for treatment and launched an online tool for doctors. The establishment of the Dengue Observatory and the enhancement of the Emergency Operations Committee for dengue further demonstrate the state’s commitment to monitoring and addressing the public health crisis.
