Kishida to Lead Discussion on China, Indo-Pacific at Italy G7Summit

Prime Minister Fumio Kishida embarks on a mission to Italy for the Group of Seven summit, where he aims to steer discussions on China’s military assertiveness and other global challenges. Kishida will take the lead in talks regarding the Indo-Pacific region, including North Korea, at the three-day summit in Fasano.

Key topics on the agenda include conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East, artificial intelligence, asylum seekers, economic security, and ways to achieve peace. Kishida emphasizes the importance of upholding a free and open international order based on the rule of law.

The G7 will reaffirm opposition to changes in the status quo by force, addressing concerns over China’s military activities near Taiwan and in the South China Sea. Economic issues such as excessive production of Chinese goods and Pyongyang’s missile programs will also be discussed.

Following the summit, Kishida will participate in a gathering in Switzerland to further discuss peace efforts in Ukraine. Bilateral talks with world leaders, including Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, are anticipated during these events.

Stay tuned for updates on the outcomes of these crucial discussions on a global scale.
