Niger State Advocates for Democracy Advancement
On Democracy Day, Governor Uba Sani announced the release of 110 convicts in Kaduna State, acknowledging those who sacrificed for the revalidation of June 12. He emphasized the importance of law and order in society, urging citizens to abide by the law and respect authorities. Recognizing that some individuals may lack resources to access justice, he released the convicts as a gesture of mercy.
With the state’s custodial centers overcrowded, the Governor expressed concern over the high number of inmates awaiting trial or serving sentences. In a bid to ease the congestion, he utilized his prerogative of mercy powers to release the convicts. Meanwhile, Niger State Governor, Muhammad Umaru Bago, highlighted the challenges facing Nigeria, including electoral violence, insecurity, and economic hardship. He advocated for electoral reforms, youth and women empowerment in politics, and investment in education for the advancement of democracy.
