The head of State Welfare Organization of Iran (SWO) condemns illegal sanctions imposed by the US and Western governments on persons with disabilities in Iran, questioning the human rights principles behind such actions. At the 17th session of the Conference of States Parties (COSP17) in New York, Ali Mohammad Qaderi highlighted Iran’s commitment to promoting services for the disabled and ensuring accessibility despite the economic challenges posed by sanctions.
The harsh sanctions, intensified since 2018, have impacted the availability of essential medicines in Iran, exacerbating health issues for vulnerable groups. Qaderi also drew attention to the dire situation in Gaza, denouncing the Israeli regime’s atrocities and urging the international community to hold them accountable for violations of human rights and humanitarian law.
Despite these challenges, Iran remains dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities and providing necessary support, emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in upholding equal rights and access to essential services.
