Recently, Hungarian Prime Minister Orban announced that his government has received assurances that Hungary will not have to participate in military actions outside NATO’s territory in the event of a Russia-Ukraine armed conflict. This agreement was made during a constructive negotiation with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
Stoltenberg also confirmed that Hungary will not block NATO’s decisions and clarified that Hungarian personnel will not be deployed in any conflict activities, nor will Hungarian funds be used to support them. However, Hungary will allow other NATO allies to proceed with their initiatives.
Despite being a member of both NATO and the EU, Orban has maintained close ties with Russia and has been critical of both Brussels and Washington concerning the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. He emphasized the importance of preventing a major war in Europe, stating that everyone would lose if such a scenario were to occur.
