Spanish Government Allows Moroccan Professionals to Use Their Driving Licenses in Spain
The Spanish government recently approved a decision allowing Moroccan professionals to use their Moroccan driving licenses on Spanish soil without having to take a theoretical and practical test. This move aims to facilitate the recognition of Moroccan driving licenses for professionals, excluding certain classes such as trucks and buses.
This decision comes after Spain expressed its support for the recognition of Moroccan driving licenses without the need for a prior theoretical test for professionals. The Spanish Bulletin mentioned that Moroccan drivers seeking to exchange licenses equivalent to Spanish class C, C+E, D, and D+E must undergo a driving test on a public road using authorized vehicles.
This initiative, which dates back to February 2019, is now awaiting final approval from the Spanish Parliament. Spain’s Directorate General for Traffic initiated a proposal to amend the agreement between Spain and Morocco to facilitate mutual recognition of driving licenses.
The Spanish government’s decision was motivated by the need for skilled labor in the transport sector. Despite criticisms from Spain’s far-right, this measure aims to address the shortage of qualified drivers in the country.
