A recent scandal has rocked a leading children’s charity in China, with a former volunteer and senior official facing potential prosecution for donation fraud. The China Charities Aid Foundation for Children (CCAFC) has been blacklisted by the Ministry of Civil Affairs and its operations suspended due to accusations of embezzling nearly 10 million yuan from parents of sick children.
The volunteer, known as Ke, worked at the CCAFC’s 9958 Rescue Centre, which provides emergency aid to critically ill children. Ke has been detained and his case handed over to prosecutors. The ministry’s investigation also uncovered issues with the charity’s management, including activities “outside regulation” and failure to disclose information as required by law.
As a result, the CCAFC has been placed on a blacklist of dishonest organizations and will be suspended for three months. The Ministry of Civil Affairs has assured that a task force will oversee the protection of the rights of children receiving assistance from the charity during this period.
