UN Chief Calls for All Gaza Access Routes to Be Open

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is urging for all routes into Gaza to be opened to allow humanitarian aid to reach the suffering population trapped in the besieged Palestinian territory. Israel has been carrying out a brutal campaign against the defenseless Palestinians in Gaza since October 7, 2023.

At an emergency aid summit in Jordan, Guterres denounced Israel’s actions and called for an immediate ceasefire to end the savagery and starvation of the people in Gaza. The flow of humanitarian assistance has dramatically decreased due to the closure of border crossings, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.

Guterres supports the ceasefire plan proposed by US President Joe Biden and emphasizes the importance of respecting international humanitarian law. He also calls for the protection of UNRWA workers and the need for operational land routes into Gaza. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi are also urging the international community to pressure Israel to open the border crossings.

The emergency aid summit highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, with over 37,100 people killed by Israel since October. Urgent action is needed to address the humanitarian crisis and ensure the delivery of essential aid to the people of Gaza.
