Ukraine seeks aid to protect and rebuild war-torn cities

International efforts to protect Ukrainian cities from Russian missiles were discussed at a conference in Berlin, with calls for businesses to invest in post-war reconstruction. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy highlighted the destruction caused by Russian forces and sought billions in defense funding and modern energy agreements.

Switzerland hosts a peace summit for Ukraine this weekend, but China and Russia have dismissed it. Germany pledged more air defense systems to aid Ukraine’s defenses, emphasizing the importance of preventing further destruction.

With estimates of $500 billion needed for Ukraine’s recovery, German Chancellor Scholz urged businesses to invest in sectors like renewables and IT. A Russian aerial campaign has caused widespread damage, leading to scheduled blackouts across Ukraine.

The conference also saw agreements worth 1.4 billion euros to attract private investment. Despite challenges like corruption, the focus remains on supporting Ukraine’s defense and rebuilding efforts.

Overall, the aim is to prevent further devastation and empower Ukraine to shape its own future amid the ongoing conflict.
