During a meeting with the caretaker foreign minister of Iran at a BRICS ministerial meeting in Russia, Minister Pandor highlighted the importance of reevaluating international mechanisms built on unilateralism. She stressed the need to bolster multilateralism by leveraging the United Nations and BRICS capabilities.
Pandor also discussed South Africa’s efforts to hold the Israeli regime accountable for its actions in Palestine by pursuing a case at the International Court of Justice. She reiterated South Africa’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people, framing it as a humanitarian issue on the global stage.
In addition, Minister Pandor called on the academic community to denounce Israeli crimes and stand in solidarity with the Palestinian cause. The meeting highlighted the devastating toll of Israel’s actions, with over 37,000 killed and 84,000 wounded in Gaza since October 7, 2023.
