North Korean social organizations are emphasizing the importance of strengthening the country’s defense capabilities in the face of perceived threats from the U.S. and South Korea. While lecturers advocate for a robust defense strategy, young people are increasingly expressing disinterest and frustration with the constant rhetoric surrounding national defense.

Despite restrictions on cell phone use during lectures, some participants have been caught sneaking in devices to distract themselves with games and music. Criticism of South Korea and the U.S. is becoming repetitive for many, with some questioning the focus on military and nuclear power over economic prosperity.

The disillusionment among the younger generation reflects a desire for a more prosperous and stable future, shifting away from the military-centric ideology promoted by the state. As societal challenges persist, there is growing discontent with the prioritization of defense over basic needs.
