DSS vows to crack down on violent protests in Nigeria

The Department of State Services (DSS) has issued a stern warning against any plans by non-state actors to incite violence through protests. In a statement released by Dr Peter Afunanya, the spokesperson for the DSS, the agency addressed the potential protests slated for June 12, 2024, coinciding with Democracy Day celebrations.

Afunanya emphasized that while citizens have the right to assemble and express themselves, these freedoms should not jeopardize public safety and national security. The DSS is determined to prevent any violent demonstrations orchestrated by disgruntled groups.

The statement urged citizens to refrain from unlawful behavior and encouraged them to follow proper channels to address grievances. The DSS reaffirmed its commitment to working with security agencies to maintain peace and protect lives and property.

As Nigeria commemorates 25 years of unbroken democracy, the DSS called for unity and patriotism in building a better future. For any necessary communication, the DSS website, email address, and telephone lines are open to the public.
