In an effort to secure a third term for President Nicolas Maduro, Venezuela’s ruling party conducted a voter organizing campaign to gauge support ahead of the upcoming presidential election on July 28th.
Local organizers of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela were tasked with adding 10 voters who promised to vote for Maduro into a database. These organizers and pledged voters received verification phone calls to ensure accurate data collection.
With the country facing a complex economic and political crisis, the ruling party is under pressure to retain power as Chavistas, supporters of the late Hugo Chavez, are no longer a guaranteed electoral force. Maduro emphasized the need for increased organization and mobilization in communities to secure votes.
Party members, including public employees, were encouraged to register pro-Maduro voters, with local leaders also leveraging government programs like food subsidies to identify potential supporters. The electoral body scheduled the election following an agreement between Maduro’s government and the Unitary Platform opposition coalition to improve election conditions.
Despite challenges, the ruling party remains determined to ensure Maduro’s victory, with efforts to track and secure votes across the country. As the election draws near, the political landscape in Venezuela is poised for a historic and critical event.
