The United States and Poland have joined forces to combat Russian disinformation regarding the war in Ukraine. The Ukraine Communications Group (UCG) initiative was announced by James Rubin, special envoy of the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, in Warsaw.
The UCG aims to coordinate messaging, promote accurate reporting of Russia’s invasion, amplify Ukrainian voices, and expose Kremlin information manipulation. Participating countries include Ukraine, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and others.
NATO member Poland, a staunch supporter of Ukraine, plays a pivotal role in facilitating Western aid to Kyiv. The country has also experienced cyberattacks targeting its state news agency.
Rubin highlighted the seriousness of the disinformation threat, emphasizing that Russia has long exploited the information domain for foreign policy purposes. He praised Poland as a key partner in this initiative.
