Quemoy to play key role in Taiwan’s Han Kuang war games, source says
In response to China’s large-scale war games simulating a blockade of Taiwan, the Taiwanese military is intensifying its annual Han Kuang exercises, with a focus on the defense of Quemoy. The drills will take place from July 22 to 26, emphasizing the strategic importance of Quemoy given its proximity to mainland China.
The PLA’s recent exercises were seen as a warning to Taiwan’s new leader, William Lai Ching-te, who declared Taiwan and the mainland were not subordinate to each other. This move was met with criticism from Beijing, which views Taiwan as part of its territory.

The military source revealed that Admiral Mei Chia-shu visited Quemoy to oversee drill preparations in response to recent incidents of mainland Chinese drones intruding into the area. Countermeasures against such intrusions will be integrated into the drills.

The Quemoy government has urged mainland authorities to prevent further irregular activities, emphasizing the need to maintain aviation safety and avoid escalating tensions. Quemoy’s defense command remains vigilant, concealing key assets and facilities to respond appropriately to threats.
