The police in Yerevan have taken measures to block access from Marshal Baghramyan Avenue to Derenik Demirchyan Street by installing barbed wire. This came after Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan-led opposition protesters attempted to march into Derenik Demirchyan Street, which runs alongside the Armenian parliament building, but were stopped by a human wall of police officers.
The opposition movement, led by Archbishop Galstanyan, had been camping out on Marshal Baghramyan Avenue, where they set up tents for their protest. The ongoing protests and civil disobedience actions were ignited by the announcement of border delimitation talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan regarding Tavush Province.
After leading demonstrations in Tavush Province, Archbishop Galstanyan marched to Yerevan demanding the resignation of PM Nikol Pashinyan. His efforts culminated in a large rally on May 9, where he called for Pashinyan to step down. Subsequently, on May 26, a transitional government was announced with Archbishop Galstanyan as the PM candidate.
