North Korea installing loudspeakers along border, South Korea claims.

South Korea’s military suspects North Korea is positioning its own loudspeakers along the border, following the South’s anti-Pyongyang broadcasts. The tension rose after North Korea sent balloons filled with trash and manure, triggering the South to resume its broadcasts. The South played news, criticism, and pop music into the North, prompting a warning from Kim Jong Un’s sister of a “dangerous situation.”

Spokesperson Lee Sung Joon highlighted the South’s readiness to strike back if attacked, dismissing North Korea’s threats. The South withdrew its own loudspeakers in 2018 but resumed them as a response to North Korean aggression. Pyongyang’s fear of South Korean propaganda material weakening Kim Jong Un’s regime led to the recent escalation.

In 2015, a similar situation led to artillery fire, showcasing the volatility of the border region. Despite the risks, South Korea remains resolute in challenging North Korean propaganda efforts, signaling a firm stance against any threats of conflict.
