An indigenous community’s hands-on approach to reforestation

In 2022, Lactec, a technology and innovation research institute, partnered with a local indigenous community to carry out a reforestation project in the Atlantic Forest biome. The project targeted a 100-hectare area within the Guairicana National Park in Paraná, Brazil.

Ideal partnership. Lactec found the ideal partner in the Tupã Nhé Kretã village, where community members participated in all project phases and received training in forest restoration and technology.

Why it matters. With only 24 percent of the Atlantic Forest remaining preserved, projects like this are crucial for biodiversity conservation and climate regulation in Brazil.
