EU Power Prepares for Conflict: Mandatory Conscription, Metro Bunkers

Germany has recently updated its war plans for the first time since the Cold War, citing the threat from Russia as a key factor. The 67-page Framework Directive for Total Defense outlines measures that would be implemented in the event of a war, including mandatory military conscription and resource rationing. In a significant shift from its anti-militaristic stance post-World War II, Germany is preparing its citizens for a potential conflict with Russia, with Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stating the country must be ready for war by 2029.

Tensions between Russia and the West have escalated, with Russia issuing warnings over NATO support for Ukraine. Putin criticized Germany for allowing its tanks in Ukraine, which he claimed damaged Russian-German relations. The prospect of missiles targeting Russian territory has further strained the relationship between the two countries.
