The United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken is currently on his eighth regional tour since the escalation of conflict between Israel and Gaza. His first stop is in Cairo, where he is meeting with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi to discuss the reopening of the Rafah border crossing with Gaza.
After Cairo, Blinken will head to Tel Aviv to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. He will also address President Joe Biden’s proposed deal for the region.
In Jordan, Blinken will attend a conference on the humanitarian response to Gaza, co-hosted by Jordan, Egypt, and the United Nations. The main agenda of Blinken’s tour is to secure a ceasefire agreement and the release of captives in the region.
