BiH Court Detains Ramiz Duraković for War Crimes

The Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina has ordered the detention of Ramiz Duraković for his alleged involvement in war crimes against Serbian civilians in Čajnič. The Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina revealed that the decision to detain Duraković was made to prevent his escape, as he had been living abroad and holds German citizenship.

Duraković, once the commander of the 43rd Drina Brigade of the BiH Army, is suspected of participating in an attack on Serbian villages in 1993, resulting in the deaths of 11 civilians, including elderly men, women, and children. Five other civilians were also injured during the attack.

Despite being aware of the crimes committed by his subordinates, Duraković allegedly failed to take necessary actions to prosecute the perpetrators. As a result, he is facing charges of war crimes against the civilian population.

After being arrested at the Uvac Border Crossing, Duraković remains under investigation by the BiH Prosecutor’s Office. The tragic events of that day continue to haunt the memories of those affected, as justice is sought for the innocent lives lost in the villages of Šapiće, Trpinje, and Troyan.
