Belarus will participate in the second stage of Russian drills simulating the launch of tactical nuclear weapons, as announced by Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin. The decision follows Russia’s announcement of practicing the usage of such weapons in response to “provocative statements” from the West.
Russian President Vladimir Putin visited Belarus, meeting with Alexander Lukashenko to discuss Belarusian military participation in Russia’s non-strategic nuclear drills. Khrenin emphasized the strengthening of defense capabilities through this collaboration.
Belarus, a key ally of Russia, has reportedly supported Russian aggression against Ukraine. The country also allegedly hosts Russian tactical nuclear arms. Putin’s nuclear threats have been reiterated since the invasion of Ukraine, although Russia continues the war without nuclear use.
