Labour retaliates against state governors over National Minimum Wage

NLC Warns Miserable Minimum Wage Will Damage Economy – Yoruba Ronu Supports Trade Unions

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has criticized state governors for rejecting the proposed N60,000 minimum wage, emphasizing that paying a low national minimum wage will have negative repercussions on both the workforce and the national economy. The NLC urged the governors to reconsider their stance, highlighting that worker wages are essential for driving the economy.

On the other hand, Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum (YRLP) has thrown its support behind the NLC and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in their demand for a N250,000 minimum wage. The forum backed the unions in the ongoing dialogue with the Federal Government, asserting that the unions’ position is justified.

Both groups are advocating for a fair and substantial increase in the minimum wage to address the rising cost of living and inflation rates, stressing that the government needs to prioritize the welfare of workers to ensure a stable and prosperous economy for all Nigerians.

The ongoing negotiations have garnered significant attention, with the hopes of reaching a consensus that benefits both the workers and the economy.
