Israeli forces launched a deadly attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, killing over 200 Palestinians while rescuing four hostages from Hamas captivity. The airstrikes and rescue mission led to widespread casualties, with reports of women and children among the dead.
Despite the toll, the IDF claimed they were targeting “terror infrastructure” in the area. The Gaza Government Media Office reported 210 casualties, but the number of Hamas fighters killed remains unknown. One Israeli officer also lost his life during the operation.
Following the attack, Palestinian leaders and international figures condemned the violence. Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas denounced it as a “bloody massacre,” while the EU called the scenes from the camp “appalling.” Calls for a ceasefire by US President Joe Biden were reiterated.
As tensions persist, a significant number of hostages remain in Hamas captivity. The conflict has resulted in a high number of Palestinian casualties since the war began eight months ago, with thousands injured in the ongoing crisis.
