First pay as a cop: 77-year-old retiree shares how he spent N120.

Michael Okonta, a 77-year-old retired policeman and Chief Security Officer of Justrite Superstores Limited, shares his incredible life story with Victoria Edeme.

Born in Abavo, Delta State, in 1947, Okonta grew up as the third of 10 children. Despite his upbringing in a farming community, he pursued education over farming, defying his father’s wishes. His journey led him to become an electrician, a taxi driver, and eventually, a policeman.

Joining the police force in 1974, Okonta faced numerous challenges and assassination attempts throughout his career. Despite the dangers, his dedication to serving his community never wavered. After retiring in 2009, he found fulfillment in his role at Justrite Superstores Limited.

With seven children who are all graduates and successful in their own right, Okonta cherishes the legacy he has built. His story is a testament to perseverance, determination, and the importance of family support.\
