Staff members at Federal Polytechnic, Ukana, in Akwa Ibom State have begun a seven-day warning strike to protest against management’s handling of their demands. The workers, part of the Senior Staffs Association of Nigerian Polytechnics, are unhappy with issues such as non-payment of salary shortfalls, promotion arrears, and staff conversions. They marched around the school premises carrying placards with various demands.
SSANIP chairman, Mr. Tamunosiki Daka, stressed the importance of addressing their welfare concerns and criticized management for ignoring their pleas for several years. Despite attempts to engage with management, no satisfactory resolutions were reached, leading to the strike action.
Daka highlighted the ultimatum given to management and warned of further actions if their demands are not met. The protesters are resolute in their quest for fair treatment and emphasized that their priority is the well-being of SSANIP members.
