Mamata Banerjee predicts short-lived BJP government formed undemocratically

Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal and leader of Trinamool Congress, criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party for forming the government “undemocratically and illegally”. She expressed hope that the I.N.D.I.A. bloc, of which her party is a part, could stake a claim to form the government in the future. Banerjee emphasized that the current BJP-led government was weak and unstable.

The TMC won 29 out of 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, positioning them as a significant player in national politics. Banerjee reiterated that the TMC MPs would focus on opposing contentious issues like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Additionally, they would demand the release of blocked funds for West Bengal’s development.

Regarding the upcoming government formation, Banerjee stated that the I.N.D.I.A. bloc would eventually take charge but emphasized the need to observe the BJP-led government’s performance. She criticized Narendra Modi and the NDA government, pointing out their lack of a clear majority and dependence on allies.

Despite not receiving an invitation, Banerjee announced that she and her party members would not attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony. The TMC appointed new leadership roles within the party, signaling a strategic shift in their approach towards national politics.
