APC claims PDP is threatening violence in Edo election, alerts police

Edo State’s All Progressives Congress (APC) raised concerns about potential violence from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming Governorship elections on September 21, 2024. The APC called for the arrest of PDP’s Asue Ighodalo Campaign Organisation Spokesman, Rev. Olu Martins, following incendiary comments in a viral video.

APC’s Edo State Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, accused Rev. Olu Martins of inciting violence and urged the security agencies to take action. Tenebe emphasized the need for a peaceful election and condemned any form of violence or cultist activities.

In response, Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, stressed the importance of constructive dialogue and peaceful engagement in the democratic process. Nehikhare highlighted the government’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and addressing any disruptive behavior.

The escalating tensions between the APC and PDP underscore the need for a harmonious and law-abiding approach to the electoral process. With both parties calling for adherence to the principles of democracy and respect for the rule of law, the focus should remain on ensuring a fair and peaceful election.
