The United Nations has added the Israeli military to the list of shame for committing violations against children.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres informed Israel’s UN envoy, Gilad Erdan, of the decision last Friday. The annual report on children and armed conflicts includes atrocities like killing, sexual abuse, abducting, denying aid access, and attacking schools and hospitals.
Erdan defended the Israeli army as “the most moral army in the world.” The decision is expected to impact Israel’s relations with the UN.
The UN report mentions the ongoing genocidal war waged by Israel against Gaza since October, resulting in the deaths of over 36,731 Palestinians, mostly women and children.
Hamas urged the UN to blacklist Israel for its continuous mass killings of innocent Palestinian children, highlighting the regime’s crimes and massacres.
The report by Virginia Gamba, Guterres’ special representative, will be presented to the Security Council on June 14. According to Gaza’s government, over 15,517 children were killed by the Israeli military, and about 17,000 children lost their parents. Malnutrition among 3,500 Gaza children is a direct result of the war.
