National Samsung Electronics Union Advocating for Fair Wages
Samsung Electronics employees, represented by the National Samsung Electronics Union (NSEU), are demanding better pay through industrial action. The NSEU, which includes tens of thousands of workers, has initiated a six-month campaign for improved wages.
The union is pushing for a 5.1 percent pay raise from Samsung, along with additional annual leave and transparent performance-based bonuses. Despite negotiations since January, the two parties have not reached a consensus. In response, employees are using their paid leave simultaneously, showing a significant impact on workplace attendance.
Although Samsung claims negotiations are ongoing, the strike has not affected its chip production. Protestors have gathered in Seoul to voice their demands, calling for respect for labor rights and fair compensation.
This strike holds historical significance as Samsung had resisted unionization for decades before organizers successfully established the NSEU in recent years. With about 28,000 members, the union aims to empower labor in South Korea and ensure workers’ voices are heard.
