Narendra Modi has been officially elected as the leader of the National Democratic Alliance coalition for his third term as India’s prime minister. While his BJP party fell short of a majority, the NDA coalition won 293 seats, securing their victory over the opposition.
Mr. Modi’s swearing-in ceremony is set for Sunday, where he will begin his rare third term. Notably, this term will be the first under his leadership where the BJP will rely on smaller allies for support, potentially impacting future policy decisions.
The ceremony is expected to host up to 8,000 guests, including foreign dignitaries and influential figures from various fields. Prominent figures like Nepal’s prime minister and the president of Maldives have been invited, showcasing regional diplomatic ties.
Despite cabinet post negotiations with key regional allies, support for Mr. Modi remains strong, setting the stage for a united coalition under his leadership. The ceremony will also honor workers from various projects and heroes from past rescues.
