EFCC charges 3 men for allegedly embezzling Access Bank N3.5bn

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has brought three men before an Ikeja Special Offences Court for allegedly embezzling N3.5 billion from Access Bank. The accused, Michael Igbomins, David Onyeike, and Moses Iruolaje, pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and retaining proceeds of crime.

The EFCC Counsel requested a trial date and for the defendants to be held in a correctional facility. The defence counsel assured the court that necessary applications would be submitted before the next hearing.

It is alleged that the defendants committed the crimes in Lagos in 2023, stealing and converting the N3.5 billion belonging to Access Bank for personal use. The EFCC claimed they knowingly kept the money obtained illegally.

Justice Olubunmi Abike-Fadipe remanded the defendants in Ikoyi Custodial Centre until their bail application is reviewed. The trial is set to begin on Nov. 28 as per the court’s decision.
