A recent survey by the Union of Buenos Aires Journalists (SiPreBA) revealed that 3 out of every 4 media workers in the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area earn wages below the poverty line. The study, released during Journalist Day celebrations in Argentina, interviewed over 1,000 media professionals.

The survey highlighted how the Libertarian administration of President Javier Milei has targeted newspeople, undermining their rights to information and freedom of expression. The study found that a significant percentage of journalists struggle to make ends meet, with many holding multiple jobs to survive.

Despite facing challenges like low wages, attacks on press freedom, and mental health issues, SiPreBA Secretary-General Agustín Lecchi emphasized the importance of collective organization and defending the profession for the sake of democracy.
