The Federal Government has reopened the rehabilitated rail line connecting Lagos to Kano, as announced by Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, on Thursday. The reopening ceremony, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aims to boost the transportation of import and export goods, creating new business opportunities and improving the movement of goods between the regions.
The railway service is expected to transport a significant number of containers, reducing road traffic accidents, lowering costs, and boosting the GDP. Minister Alkali emphasized President Tinubu’s support for the transportation sector and his dedication to completing ongoing projects in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
During a recent trial run, import containers were successfully moved from Lagos to Kano, covering a distance of 1,132km with multiple driver changing stations along the route. The Ministry has also implemented inspection mechanisms to prevent vandalism of rail tracks, ensuring the efficiency and safety of the rail line.
