Ukrainian president thanks Qatar for its role in returning children ‘forcibly deported’ by Russia during the war.
During his visit to Qatar, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed gratitude to Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for Qatar’s support for Ukraine’s “sovereignty and territorial integrity” amidst the ongoing Russian invasion. Zelenskyy praised Qatar for helping in the return of children forcibly deported by Russia, with plans for future cooperation in this area.
The meeting also addressed Qatar’s role in reuniting Ukrainian children with their families, highlighting efforts to resolve the crisis through dialogue. Discussions included key UN resolutions condemning Russian aggression and the international community’s push to protect civilians and end the conflict in Ukraine.
Zelenskyy is scheduled to meet with US President Joe Biden in Normandy, France, and attend an international summit in Switzerland to address the war in Ukraine. Despite Ukraine’s pushback against Russian forces, recent attacks on Kharkiv have escalated tensions, prompting Western countries to authorize the use of Western-donated weapons for defensive measures.
