Israel’s ceasefire proposal, revealed by US President Joe Biden, is still awaiting a response from Hamas, according to White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan. Mediation efforts through Qatari intermediaries are ongoing, with CIA Director Bill Burns consulting in Doha today. Qatar has conveyed the proposal to Hamas, bringing both sides closer to a resolution.
However, Hamas insists on a clear commitment to a permanent truce and complete withdrawal from Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu similarly emphasizes the need to eradicate Hamas for lasting peace. The conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths, widespread destruction, and genocide allegations denied by Israel.
Meanwhile, Slovenia has joined other EU countries in recognizing the State of Palestine, supporting efforts to pressure Israel to end the Gaza war. Prime Minister Robert Golob highlights the significance of this recognition for the Palestinian people. Despite opposition calls for a referendum, the decision was ultimately approved by Slovenia’s parliament, aligning with other EU members who have acknowledged a Palestinian state.
