“The scenes of destruction & suffering of people are heart-wrenching, and it is clear that urgent action is needed to alleviate the humanitarian crisis facing the Gaza Strip.”

The UN’s Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, described the dire situation in the Gaza Strip as “heart-wrenching,” emphasizing the urgent need for action to address the humanitarian crisis.

During his visit to Gaza, Wennesland witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by the hostilities and met with local officials to address the immediate needs of the population, particularly at the Al-Amal Hospital in southern Gaza.

He urged all parties to agree to a ceasefire and work towards a resolution to prevent further loss of life, highlighting a serious proposal outlined by President Biden for a three-phase plan including a ceasefire, captive-prisoner exchange, and reconstruction of Gaza.

Despite calls for peace, Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed reluctance to stop the war, prolonging the suffering of Palestinians and exacerbating the already staggering death toll in Gaza.
