Tusk: EU vote crucial to keep war away from bloc

Prime Minister Donald Tusk’s supporters gathered in Warsaw ahead of the European elections, emphasizing the importance of Poland’s security amidst tensions on its eastern border. With the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and a migrant crisis on the Belarusian border, Tusk highlighted the choice between a safe future within the EU or a more perilous path if the nationalist Law and Justice party prevails.

Tusk emphasized the need for unity to prevent the possibility of war on Polish soil, as the Civic Coalition aims to establish dominance in the political scene. The rally coincided with the 35th anniversary of Poland’s first postwar democratic election, symbolizing the country’s democratic progress.

Despite criticism from the Law and Justice party regarding Tusk’s alleged ties to Germany and hypocrisy on migrant policies, Tusk’s supporters remain steadfast in their commitment to a united Europe. The upcoming European Parliament elections will determine the future direction of Poland’s political landscape.

As EU citizens prepare to vote, the results are anticipated to impact the balance of power within the European Parliament, with pro-EU groups facing a potential decrease in their majority.
