Tax Justice Dialogue: Compliance and Social Contract for SDGs

On June 5, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Armenia, in partnership with the American University of Armenia (AUA), organized the first National Dialogue on Tax Justice, Improved Compliance, and a Renewed Social Contract for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The event, supported by the Governments of Norway and Finland, brought together various stakeholders to discuss the importance of fair and effective tax collection for sustainable development and a renewed social contract.

Key speakers, including Rustam Badasyan from the State Revenue Committee of Armenia and Natia Natsvlishvili, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, highlighted the role of taxation in achieving the SDGs. They emphasized the significance of building a fair taxation system and improving tax administration to enhance government accountability, reduce poverty, and promote social justice.

The discussions at the National Dialogue focused on necessary policy and administrative changes to support sustainable growth in the country, promote inclusive change, and strengthen social commitments. Experts from different sectors shared their insights on tax justice, compliance, and the importance of reshaping the current tax system to achieve a fair and efficient tax system.
