NATO starts largest naval warfare drill

The NATO naval exercise “Baltops 24” kicks off today in Lithuania, featuring over 50 ships, 45 aircraft, and 9,000 soldiers. This annual event is NATO’s largest naval exercise, taking place in Kalipeda. The Polish Armed Forces are fully involved, with ships from the Third Naval Flotilla and the Eighth Coastal Defense Flotilla participating.

The exercise simulates defensive responses to conflicts between fictional countries, emphasizing security and cooperation among NATO members. A total of 20 Alliance countries are taking part, including Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, and the USA. Activities will span the Baltic Sea basin and coastal regions of Sweden, Poland, Germany, and Lithuania.

With representatives from all branches of the Polish military involved, Baltops 24 showcases NATO’s commitment to collective defense and regional stability. This massive display of naval power underscores the importance of international cooperation in maintaining maritime security and readiness.
