Recent findings by Declassified uncovered that 180 out of 650 MPs in Britain’s last parliament have accepted funding from pro-Israel lobby groups or individuals throughout their political careers. This includes 130 Conservative MPs, 41 Labour MPs, and three Liberal Democrats. The total value of these donations exceeds one million pounds, with over 240 paid-for trips to Israel costing more than half a million pounds.
Despite the ongoing Gaza genocide, fifteen MPs have received funding for trips to Israel. Notably, MPs from the Scottish National Party, Sinn Fein, Plaid Cymru, SDLP, Alba, Greens, Alliance, and Workers Party did not receive any support from the pro-Israel lobby.
Friends of Israel
Several parliamentary groups like Conservative Friends of Israel (CFI) and Labour Friends of Israel (LFI) have funded numerous MPs’ visits to Israel. CFI alone sponsored 118 Tory MPs on over 160 trips, while LFI supported 32 Labour MPs. These groups enjoy close ties with the Israeli government and are known for their lack of transparency in funding sources.
Individual donors
Individuals, including pro-Israel lobbyists, have also financially backed Labour and Conservative MPs. Not all MPs who accepted funding have been critical of Israeli government policies, raising questions about the influence of pro-Israel money on British politicians.
